Genesis 1, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth... [Christian Sermons 6]

 

God is the beginning and the end, and He is the God of creation who created all beginnings.

The following is a summary of the sermon message delivered by Pastor Paul C. Jong, author of the essential Christian book “Have You Truly Been Born Again of Water and the Spirit?”


The Book of Genesis shows God’s plan and purpose like a blueprint, and through this Word, we can know that God exists and that God created us.

Genesis 1:1–5

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.”

God is the beginning and the end, and He is the God of creation who created all beginnings.

God created all beginnings of heaven and earth, and on the sixth day, He created man.

Genesis 1:2

“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

This verse also represents the state of mankind.

As descendants of Adam, people are born as fundamental sinners with sin from conception, meaning they live as sinners continuously committing sin until death, in darkness and confusion, not knowing God, not knowing right from wrong.

As a result, they follow experiences or wrong things rather than God’s Word.

Also, because they live as sinners with sin, as stated in “the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters,” they cannot be with God.

Isaiah 59:1–2

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.”

Therefore, we must know.

We must know that we are sinners who, born as descendants of Adam, cannot help but continue to sin until death.

Genesis 1:3–5

“Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.”

Though we were born as fundamental sinners belonging to darkness, Jesus Christ, the Son of God who is Light, shone His light so that we too can be born again as children of God who belong to light, not darkness. This means that God created us to make us His children of light.

How did Jesus Christ, who is God and Light, make us born again as children of light?

Jesus came to this earth and made us born again as children of light without any sin through our faith in the gospel of water, blood, and the Spirit, which He fulfilled to save us from all sins.

The Son of God the Father came to earth and was baptized by John the Baptist, humanity’s representative, to take on all sins from the beginning to the end of the world. Then, to eliminate the world’s sins He took through baptism, He shed His blood on the cross, paying the price for those sins from Jesus’ side, not ours. Through this, He has saved all of us who believe in this truth from all those sins.

“God divided the light from the darkness”

In other words, this means He separates those who are born again without sin through faith in the gospel of water (baptism), blood, and the Spirit that Jesus fulfilled, from sinners who have sin because they don’t believe.

Therefore, we should not fall into hypocrisy or our own logic but believe as God has determined.

We should give thanks to the Lord with joy and hold onto Jesus, saying, “I truly thank You, God, for creating me and making me, who was bound for hell in sin, Your people of light without sin through the gospel of water, blood, and the Spirit.”

John 8:32

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
