What Makes Us Frustrated in Our Life of Faith? [Bible Study 3]

We must know our evil nature and limitations. We must acknowledge that we cannot keep the law and that we are sinners bound for hell who love the world more than God.

Sin is what causes us to fall in our life of faith.

As descendants of Adam, we humans are fundamentally born with twelve sins, therefore we are weak and evil beings who cannot help but sin.

Therefore, we do what we should not do, and do not do what we want to do.

That is why Apostle Paul says in Romans 7:19–20,

“For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.” (Romans 7:19–20)

We wish to do good and live according to His word.

However,

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.” (Mark 7:21–22)

Because these things reside in our hearts and continuously come out, we do what we should not do, and do not do what we want to do. We keep repeating such evil deeds, either in our hearts or in reality. And people pray to God in repentance.

“Lord, I have sinned. Please forgive me. I will never do it again. I promise this will truly be the last time. I earnestly beg you to forgive me just this once.”

However, this promise can never be sustained. This is because people cannot live in this world without sinning. We might avoid it a few times, but it’s impossible to never sin again. So we end up sinning again.

“Lord, please forgive me.”

When this continues, they drift away from church. They become distant from God because of sin and eventually end up in hell.

We must know our evil nature and limitations.

We must acknowledge that we cannot keep the law and that we are sinners bound for hell who love the world more than God. And we must know that our salvation lies not in our efforts but in His salvation work where Jesus eliminated all our sins from His side.

Jesus Christ, who is God, King of kings, and High Priest of heaven, was baptized through the laying on of hands by John the Baptist, the last high priest descended from Aaron, according to the Old Testament sacrificial law, taking upon Himself all the sins of the world. Therefore, to pay for those sins He bore, He died bleeding on the cross and rose again after three days — only by believing this can we be saved from all sins and go to heaven.

Thus, through the gospel of water (baptism), blood, and the Spirit, He eliminated all our sins from His side and made all who believe in His work His sinless children.

Our salvation is completed not by our efforts but by knowing and believing how Jesus, who is God, saved us through His work.
