Who Overcomes the World? [Christian Sermons 7]

 

We can overcome the world’s oppression and threats, and overcome Satan who planted sin, when we believe in the truth of salvation where Jesus eliminated sin through water, blood, and the Spirit.

The following is a summary of parts from Book 1 of the sermon series “Have You Truly Been Born Again of Water and the Spirit?” by Pastor Paul C. Jong, servant of God of The New Life Mission.

Have you truly been Born Again of Water and the Spirit?

1 John 5:4–6

“For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith. And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is the truth.”

The Bible says that the way to overcome the world, that is Satan, is through faith in Jesus Christ who came by water and blood.

Believing in Jesus is not just vaguely believing in Him, but believing in ‘Jesus who came by water, blood, and the Spirit.’

Water, blood, and the Spirit are essential elements for our salvation from all sins, and we must have faith in the testimony of water, blood, and the Spirit in our hearts to overcome the world.

1 John 5:8 says:

“For there are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and the three agree in one.”

We must believe in these three testimonies fulfilled by the Lord to be born again as sinless children of God.

1. Then what is the ‘testimony of water’?

In the Bible, ‘water’ means ‘Jesus’ baptism’ (1 Peter 3:21). It refers to Jesus, who came as the High Priest of heaven, .taking all the sins of this world upon Himself through baptism (imputation, transfer) by John the Baptist, the last high priest of this earth, and by bearing them, He eliminated our sins.

In Matthew 3:15, Jesus said, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” He fulfilled all righteousness by taking away all the sins of sinners in this world through His baptism.

This is the testimony of water (Jesus’ baptism).

2. What is the ‘testimony of blood’?

And the ‘testimony of blood’ testifies that Jesus took all the sins of the world through baptism, went to the cross, was judged and died as the price for those sins, and rose again to blot out our sins and give us eternal new life.

This is the testimony of blood.

3. And what is the ‘testimony of the Spirit’?

It refers to Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God and Spirit, coming to this earth in the flesh to save humanity from sin. Also, the Holy Spirit comes into the hearts of saints who have become holy and sinless by believing in the gospel of water, blood, and the Spirit, and testifies to this faith in the truth of salvation.

This is the testimony of the Spirit.

However, many people today believe only in Jesus’ blood and the Spirit while ignoring Jesus’ baptism. But if one overlooks the water, which is Jesus’ baptism, in receiving salvation from sin, this is an incomplete faith, resulting in remaining in sin, unable to overcome the world (sin), and ultimately going to hell because of sin.

We can overcome the world’s oppression and threats, and overcome Satan who planted sin, when we believe in the truth of salvation where Jesus eliminated sin through water, blood, and the Spirit.

The faith that can overcome the world cannot be achieved through our own sacrifice, religious beliefs, endurance, or moral actions.

We, who are born with sin and cannot help but sin until death, can only be born again as victors over the world, as sinless ones who can enter heaven, by believing in the gospel of water, blood, and the Spirit of Jesus Christ who saved us from sin.

Which Came First: Faith in God's Righteousness or the Law? [Bible Study 2]

  The "baptism" that Jesus Christ was baptized by John the Baptist was the only way Christ took upon Himself all our sins.
