Why Today's Church Is in Confusion — 1 Corinthians Explained Through the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit
The Bible study book “1 Corinthians Seen from the Perspective of the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit” by Rev. Paul C. Jong, a servant of God from The New Life Mission, is a book explained so that we may study in detail, through the First Epistle to the Corinthians — which the Apostle Paul recorded by receiving the work of the Holy Spirit — the answer to the question “On what must God’s Church stand?” addressed to today’s Church which is in the midst of confusion.
Paul diagnoses all the problems of the Corinthian church — division, moral failure, the abuse of spiritual gifts, and the denial of the resurrection from the dead — within the very same “gospel of the water and the Spirit.”
This is because the center of God’s Church had shifted to man, philosophy, doctrine, or other worldly religious systems.
First Corinthians shows that many problems are resolved when God’s Church builds our faith not upon the wisdom of man, but upon the baptism, upon the judgment of the Cross, and upon the resurrection from the dead that Jesus Christ gave in order to accomplish the salvation of all mankind from all the sins of this world.
It shows that only when God’s Church is built upon the gospel of the water and the Spirit do the saints obtain true rest within it.
Therefore, the Apostle Paul is saying that if the ministry of the Church is not proclaimed with the gospel of the water and the Spirit at its center, the faith of the church members will gradually drift toward the righteousness of man and moral exhortation; and therefore, when the Church testifies to the word of the gospel of the water and the Spirit that the Lord has given, it manifests not division but oneness within the Lord.
Dear readers, the problems that the Corinthian church faced are by no means a story of two thousand years ago. Division, moral compromise, the arrogance of knowledge, the misuse of spiritual gifts, and the wavering of the faith in the resurrection are realities that are still being repeated within the Church today. Therefore, First Corinthians becomes the same living word of God for today’s Church as well.
Through this book “1 Corinthians Seen from the Perspective of the Gospel of the Water and the Spirit,” we must come to realize the gospel of the water and the Spirit even more, and build the foundation of salvation upon the core of the gospel that Paul proclaimed to the Corinthian church — that is, faith in the Lord who received baptism from John to take upon Himself the sins of the world, received the judgment of sin on the Cross, and rose again from the dead, believing in Him as our Savior.

God’s Wisdom for Human Salvation
Regarding Jesus Christ and the Message of the Cross Preached by Paul
“And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:1–2).
When Paul reached Corinth, he proclaimed like this: “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” This was not a simplification of the gospel. The expression “the cross of Christ” encompasses the entire redemption ministry of Jesus. That is, it speaks of the faith believing in the Savior Jesus who had the sins of the world passed onto Him through the ministry of receiving baptism from John, was crucified to receive the judgment of sins, and resurrected from the dead. Paul does not package the gospel word of the water and the Spirit with human philosophy or religious knowledge. Because the message of the cross that Paul preaches is testified as the gospel that gives salvation to those who believe, by removing the sins of all humanity through the ministry of Jesus receiving baptism from John to have the sins of the world passed onto Him, and receiving the judgment of sins on the cross.
